CHANEL Times Square / Hong Kong
A new Harvest in Hong Kong !
A newer version of Harvest commissioned by CHANEL has been installed in the flagship store in Time Square, Hong Kong.
Harvest-2013 is a remake of Osman Akan's Harvest-2008 which was made as a continuation of his publicart installation "the Third Bridge" that took place in New York City as part of the 40th year celebrations of arts in the parks.
Initiated by Peter Marino Architecture Group, this version of Harvest shares the same concerns and look of the previous ones. Signature use of optical fibers in the form of hay stacks is consistent with Akan's referencing of the natural growth of crops and their global circulation/trade over fiber optic networks. Akin to the process of harvesting, the artwork itself does not contain any additional hardware and it is simply tied together by hand. Such details are the colorful and bright reminders of the modes of production that are perhaps no longer practiced in industrial socities today.
Materials: Optical fibers, acrylic rods, black marble and metal halide illuminators.
